Stone Care & Maintenance
Caring for Your Natural Stone Furniture
Natural stone is a living material, forged by time and nature. Each piece is unique and requires specific care to maintain its architectural beauty for generations.
1. Travertine (Porous Stones)
Travertine is characterized by its unique "vocal" texture and natural pits. While we seal our pieces before shipping, its porous nature requires extra attention.
- Sealing: Re-seal every 6-12 months depending on use.
- Spills: Blot (don't wipe) liquid spills immediately to prevent penetration into the pores.
2. Onyx & Jade (Translucent Stones)
Onyx is exceptionally beautiful but more delicate than marble. It is highly sensitive to acids and scratches.
- Gentle Touch: Use felt pads under all decor objects.
- Avoid Heat: Never place hot items directly on the surface; always use heat-resistant coasters.
3. Dense Marbles (Verde Guatemala, Nero Marquina)
Denser stones are more resistant to staining but can still "etch" if exposed to acidic substances.
- The Acid Rule: Keep lemons, wine, and vinegar far away. These will chemically react with the stone, leaving dull matte spots known as etching.
Daily Maintenance Tips
- Cleaning: Use only pH-neutral stone cleaners or warm water with a drop of mild dish soap.
- No Abrasives: Avoid scouring pads or cream cleaners which can scratch the polished/honed finish.
- Dusting: Dust regularly with a clean, soft microfiber cloth to prevent grit from scratching the surface.
